SILESIA -- KUHNOVIO, FRIDERICO
Ducatus Silesiae Iauranus ... authore Friderico Khünovio. [n.p. c.1660]. Engraved map of Silesia, 510 x 640mm, title set at upper left, dedicatory cartouche at upper left, dedicatory cartouche at upper right corener, explanation an scale bar, mountains depicted in stipple effects, forests with tree symbols, the map plate signed by Bartsch, outer engraved border of floral motifs. (Old repaired clean tear at lower margin, margins strengthened on verso with old paper strips).
A VERY RARE MAP OF SILESIA, Friedrich Kubn's (Kühnovio) map became the standard form, copied by Blaeu in 1662, and subsequently by Schenk and many other Dutch mapmakers. Together with 5 other 17th century uncoloured maps of Silesia; J.Jansson Silesiae Ducatus; Silesia Inferior after Jonas Scultetus; J.Blaeu, Ducatus Silesiae Wolanus, After Scultetus; Ducatus Silesiae Ligniciensis, after Scultetus; Ducatus Silesiae Grotganus, after Scultetus.
