ITALY, NORTHERN CITIES -- RUGGIERI, FERDINANDO (1691-1741).
Pianta della Città di Firenze. Florence: Giuseppe Bouchard, 1755, engraved plan of Florence, 510 x 690mm. (Marginal tears not affecting the plate, lightly discoloured.) with full margins.
This influential plan of Florence, the most successful of the XVIII Century, was first published in 1731, there published in 1755 by Bouchard and later there by Poggiali in 1784. It depicts the town orientated to the South and is embellished with the Hapsburg arms on the upper right corner as well as putti holding strapwork cartouches. This issue of the map is often found in Ruggieri's Sceltadi XXIV Vedute di Firenze 1755 but was also sold separately; together with 5 plans and maps of Italian cities comprising a Nuova pianta della reale città di Torino dated 1764, another plan of Turin by Matthäus Seutter, a bird's eye coloured view of Trieste published by Lotter, Homann's plan of Mayland dated 1734 and an hand-coloured plan of Venice by Homann Heirs.
