A very important map of the Atlantic Ocean, in its first state, showing the coastlines of the Americas, Europe and western Africa, north from the Tropic of Capricorn. The map conveys a magnificent visual effect created by the geometric placement of rhumb lines, radiating out of the central compass rose and sixteen intersecting points. It is is directly taken from Nicolas de Nicolay's work that was first included in his French translation of Pedro de Medina's Arte de Navegar, Lyon, 1554.
