Further details
The figures dipicted in this intaglio are possibly Coriolanus shaking hands with Aufidius however the CORIOL signature may have been a later addition. Gaius Marcius Coriolanus was a legendary figure living during the 5th century B.C. His name 'Coriolanus' was adopted after his siege and capture of the Volscian town of Corioli in 493 B.C.
