Further details
C.f. 'The Art of the Jeweller, A Catalogue of the Hull Grundy gift to the British Museum', Ed. Hugh Tait, London, 1984, pl. 904, p.226 for a sardonyx cameo of the same profile by Paul Victor Lebas (exhibiting 1852-1876). This profile is based closely on the 'Gothic' crown piece first issued in 1841, and it seems likely that the shell cameo version was a later commercial copy of the Lebas hardstone.
