Keith Haring traveled to Kassel, Germany, for the Documenta 7 show in 1982. While there, he painted the present work for the Pyroseidon, a restaurant run by art students. Since the restaurant was a temporary venue, it closed after the Documenta show and the work was purchased by the present owner in 1982. Haring was delighted to view the work in the collector's home in 1984.
