Lot Essay

The present work was originally used as an illustration for an article in the August 1931 issue of McCall's magazine, "The Lindberghs: The Family's Own Story." The touching work depicts the famous aviator Charles Lindbergh as a child, presumably on his family's farm near Little Falls, Minnesota. The first person to successfully complete a transatlantic flight, Lindbergh was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor and the first-ever Distinguished Flying Cross by the U.S. government.

This painting is included in the N.C. Wyeth catalogue raisonné database that is being compiled by the Brandywine River Museum and Conservancy, Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania.
