Château l'Angélus--Vintage 1996
Saint-Emilion, grand cru classé
Tasting Note: The first wine of the opening tasting in April 1997 of Right Bank wines- 12 St-Emilions, 11 Pomerols-at Chateau Franc- Mayne. Incidentally all the bottles here were very cold, which made it rather hard work. Opaque; muffled, indistinctive nose; fair fruit but harsh tannins. Three and a half years later, some colour loss though still pretty deep; hefty, fruit-laden on nose and palate. Very dry finish. Impressive. Last noted on the MW tasting of '96s, November 2000. **** M.B.
