A GEORGE II GOLD SNUFF-BOX SET WITH AN EARLIER ENAMEL PLAQUE
the box English, circa 1730, possibly by Burrell, the enamel Paris or Blois, circa 1650
Cartouche-shaped box, the slightly raised cover inset with an oval enamel plaque depicting four angels at prayer before the Blessed Sacrament in a glory-rayed monstrance below a ribbon inscribed '·Paris· ·sit sanctissimo sacra -mento', within a raised gold border, the borders of cover and sides chased and engraved with birds, fruit, foliage, hunting dogs and rabbits within a landscape, reeded rims, the plain base with an oval vacant cartouche, with two slightly raised scroll thumbpieces
