A similar gold box with landscape miniatures by Louis-Gabriel Moreau is illustrated in the exhibition catalogue, Chefs-d'oeuvre de la miniature et de la gouache, Geneva, Musée d'Art et d'Histoire, 1956, no. 310. L. R. Schidlof describes this landscapist as 'one of the greatest of the French school of the 18th century' and draws comparisons between works by Moreau and van Blarenberghe (see L. R. Schidlof, The Miniature in Europe, Graz, 1964, II, p. 570).
