by Marie-Françoise-Antoinette Lejeune, Dame Marcillac (fl. 1806 - c. 1816), marked, with the third standard and excise marks for gold, Paris 1809-1819, and the Parisian post-Revolutionary unofficial standard mark for 18-carat gold
Cushion-shaped rectangular box of octagonal section, the hinged cover and base centred with rectangular panels engine-turned with a peacock's feathers scalework pattern, within broad matted frames stamped with scrolling foliage and four rosettes in the corners, four plain gold side panels with chased trailing foliate borders, wavy slightly raised thumbpiece, the inside of the cover later engraved with a coat-of-arms and a presentation inscription

The inscription reads 'Charley, To his dearest friend The Earl of Strathmore. April 28. 1863.', the arms are those of H.C. Johnson.
