A FRENCH ENAMELLED GOLD SNUFF-BOX FOR EXPORT TO THE ORIENT
by Louis-François Tronquoy (fl. 1827-1871), marked, with the third standard mark for gold, France 1838-1919, later struck with two French post-1893 import marks for gold
Oval box with slightly concave sides, the cover enamelled in opaque pink and centred with a gold reserve engraved with trophies of love and music, within translucent green enamelled arabesque strapwork enclosing engraved foliate gold scrolls, the gold sides and base engine-turned with arabesque strapwork and scrolls and the base centred with a guilloché reserve of a fine chevron-pattern, scrolling thumbpiece
