Lot Essay

This expressive miniature was probably painted in Geneva between 1757 and 1762 and may be compared to the pastel depicting Jean-Jacques Horngacher, illustrated in R. Loche/M. Roethlisberger, L'opera completa di Liotard, Milan, 1978, no. 238, and now in the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire, Geneva.
This miniature will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné of Liotard's works prepared by Renée Loche, Marcel Roethlisberger, Hans Boeckh and Bodo Hofstetter.
