Provenance
According to a handwritten letter which accompanies the miniature the portrait was given in 1837 to Mrs. Fry of Upton Lane, West Ham by Princess Sophia of Gloucester and before this was in the collection of Queen Charlotte.

The Mrs. Fry of Upton Lane to whom, according to the handwritten note, the present miniature was given was Elizabeth Fry (1780-1845), penal reformer and philanthropist, and descendant of a Quaker family.
