Lot Essay

While no town mark earlier then the late 18th century is recorded in A. Fernández, et. al. Enciclopedia de la Plata Española y Virreinal Amerícana or A. Fernández, et. al. Marcas de la Plata Española y Virreinal for Badajoz, an assay master called Pedrera is recorded as working there from 1620-1650.

Another pair of candlesticks with square bases, also from southern Spain, are in the collection of José Luis Várez Fisa and are illustrated in C. E. Martín, La Platería de la Colección Várez Fisa, Madrid, 2000, p. 133-135, no. 50.
