Lot Essay

Similar in handling, particularly in the lack of wash and definition of limbs, to a drawing of Saint George and the Dragon formerly in the Woodner Collection (sold in these Rooms, 2 July 1991, lot 80; G. Bora, II Campi, Disegni, Milan, 1985, no. 2.6.13). Giulio Bora has also suggested that the drawing is reminiscent of Camillo Boccaccino, a contemporary of Campi in Cremona.
