Descriptif du lot

This view shows the entrance to the harbour at Bergen op Zoom, with the Houtpoort on the left, the Hampoort at the centre and the Jacobspoort on the right. Bergen op Zoom holds a strategic position in Brabant, north of Antwerp. It was held by the Dutch during the 80 years war and was beseiged by Alessandro Farnese in 1588 and by Ambrosio Spinola in 1622. Both seiges were unsuccessful.
We are grateful to Peter Schatborn for his help in cataloguing this drawing.
