AN EXTENSIVE SET OF VELLUM PANELING AND CORNICES BY JEAN-MICHEL FRANK FOR THE PARISIAN FLAT OF JEAN-PIERRE GUERLAIN, CIRCA 1935
The three oak double doors are to be offered for sale with this Lot, were part of the original decoration in Jean-Pierre Guerlain's flat.

Jean-Pierre Guerlain, one of the famous perfumer's directors, commissionned Jean-Michel Frank in 1935 the decoration of his parisian flat seated avenue Hoche. Benefiting of the friendly relationships existing already between Adolphe Chanaux and the Guerlain family, Frank had at his disposal a substantial budget to spend for the decoration of the reception rooms : the entrance hall, the dining room, the salon and the smoking room. Faithful to his style, while the walls in the hall were paint white and kept nude, the openings redesigned and underlined with a simple gilt molding, Frank covered the walls of the salon with the velum panels and cornices sold here. Three tall oak double doors are sold with the Lot, that were part of the original setting and said to be coming from the women jail Saint-Lazare in Paris, almost completely taken apart between 1932 and 1935

Jean-Pierre Guerlain, l'un des directeurs de la célèbre parfumerie, confie à Jean-Michel Frank la décoration de son appartement, avenue Hoche, vers 1935. Bénéficiant des rapports de confiance qui existent déjà entre Adolphe Chanaux et les Guerlain, Frank disposera d'un budget important au service d'un projet d'envergure centré sur les pièces de réception : un grand hall d'entrée, un salon, un fumoir et une salle à manger. Tandis qu'il décide de blanchir les murs nus de l'entrée, d'en redessiner les portes en les soulignant d'une simple moulure dorée, il poursuit son travail d'épure dans le vaste salon dont il tapisse les murs des carreaux de parchemin vendus ici. Cinq grandes double portes en chêne ouvrent sur la pièce, qui proviendraient de la prison de femmes Saint-Lazare détruite en grande partie vers 1932-1935.
