OLMEC STONE FIGURE
PUEBLA REGION, MIDDLE PRECLASSIC, ca. 900 - 600 B.C.
of compact stature with toes indicated and arms held close to the body, with hands holding a ceremonial bar incised with a stylized feline head, the face with fierce expression showing downward-curved, parted lips reminiscent of a 'were-jaguar,' rounded chin and narrowed eyes under prominent brow; in veined deep green and cream serpentine.
Height 2 7/8 in. (7.3 cm.)
