OLMEC STONE TORSO
POSSIBLY PUEBLA REGION, ca. 900 - 600 B.C.
the fragment probably from a standing figure with robust body, arms folded straight across the chest and incised lines indicating crossed arms, a groove on the lower abdomen indicating the once separated legs, the massive head sunk deeply into the shoulders, chin jutting forward and full downturned lips in the style of the 'were-jaguar,' recessed eyes and raised ears; in striated dark green serpentine.
