The panel, originally forming the right part of a Deisis, showing St. John the Baptist in profile, bowing and gesturing in prayer, wearing both the raiment of skins and the himation, his head rendered delicately, with particular attention to the deep tones of the flesh that contrast with the fine white brushstrokes, thus resulting in a highly spiritual expression, his halo defined by a red circle against the gold background, the saint's name inscribed with red letters, the lower part of the icon painted with saturated green that corresponds to the colour of the animal skin worn by the saint
