Lot Essay

Dorothy Resigue was the younger daughter of an American couple, Mr and Mrs Resigue, living in Paris in the 1920s and 30s. The artist caught sight of Dorothy on the pavement of a Salon de Thé, probably in the Place de l'Opéra. He was very taken with her and made this sketch. Her mother gave it to a family friend, Mrs Southam, on their departure to America.
