A PAIR OF PARTHIAN GOLD EARRINGS
CIRCA 2ND-3RD CENTURY A.D.
Each with a hinged strap hoop, with loops on the underside supporting an elaborate pendant in the form of a large hollow ovoid topped with an inverted cone with three S-scroll straps, granulation along the length of the scrolls, clusters in the spirals, a thin horizontal rectangular bezel above framed by granules and set with red glass imitating garnet, bands of ornament formed of granulation and perforations along the ovoids, including arches and triangles, a band of filigree ropes below, the lower portion with seven small loops each supporting a larger ring with a bell-shaped pendant, a small loop at the base of the ovoid, perhaps originally also supporting a pendant
