A GREEK GOLD NECKLACE WITH A GOLD AND GARNET LUNATE PENDANT
HELLENISTIC PERIOD, CIRCA 2ND-1ST CENTURY B.C.
The necklace composed of a length of figure-8 loop-in-loop chain, the ends linked to an ornate hook-and-loop closure fringed with volutes; the pendant formed of a crescent-shaped sheet ornamented with filigree spirals and petals topped with a single granule, framed by filigree beaded, plain and rope wires, centered by a large oval cabochon garnet in a dog-tooth setting bordered by beaded wire, the ends each with a small round cabochon garnet in a similar setting, another at the join to the wide strap suspension tube
