CIRCA 2ND-3RD CENTURY A.D.
Cast in the form of a murmillo gladiator, depicted in a defensive position with his left leg forward and bent at the knee, the lower leg wrapped with thick padding (fasciae), wearing a loincloth (subligaculum), a broad belt (balteus) and a crested helmet, his curved shield (scutum) raised before him, a short sword (gladius) in his lowered right hand, the tightly-coiled springs and catch-plate projecting from the underside
