A ROMAN GOLD, AMETHYST AND PEARL FINGER RING
CIRCA 3RD CENTURY A.D.
The sheet hoop carinated on the exterior, concave on the interior, joined to the underside of a high stepped box bezel, flaring to a flanged rectangle, set with a cabochon amethyst, a hollow cornucopia forming a lotus calyx joined to one side, flanked by sheet volutes, topped by two twisted wires, set with a pearl (now fragmentary) once threaded by gold wire
1½ in. (3.8 cm.) high; ring size 10½
