Slightly damaged embossed metal capsule. John Harvey front and back slip labels. Bin-soiled label. Level upper-shoulder
Tasting Note: No question, an extremely good wine. Well over two dozen notes with only one or two duff bottles. First tasted in December 1954: 'very dark. Full (flavoured), big and raw'. In fact it was still 'green' and raw in the mid 1960s, laden with tannin, though a fine classic cedary nose and magnificent flavour noted, also its great length. Ten notes tracing its development through the 1970s and a dozen in the 1980s. Towards the end of this decade it started to reach its 'plateau of perfection' though several times noted a touch too much acidity. More recently, a perfect bottle, rich, complete at the Four Vintages dinner in 1993 and in 1996 a magnum, tasted blind, noting a still very deep appearance yet a mature mahogany rim; classic Pauillac nose showing some age; rich, full-bodied, extremely tannic, but with fragrant aftertaste. Most recently: lovely colour; perfect nose, rich, perfect balance. Fabulous. Last noted at the Josey pre-sale tasting in New York, Nov 20000 ***** if well stored, a long life ahead. M.B.
