PORT OF THE ATTRACTIVE 1970 AND 1977 VINTAGES
Lying in Twickenham, Middlesex (EHD)
Graham--Vintage 1970
Oporto-bottled. Embossed wax capsules, three good, seven damaged and two with remains only. Nine with slight signs of seepage. Good labels, two slightly stained. Levels base of neck or better
In original wooden case
Tasting note: The Graham family's last vintage. Originally (July 1972) opaque, still deep, plummy and fairly intense, showing rich extract; fragrant, high-toned yet harmonious bouquet though still a bit hard; very sweet, full-bodied, lots of fruit, grip, length, tannin and acidity. Chocolate and spice. Well over two dozen notes since 1982, all consistently good. In the mid-1990s, lovely, distinctive, very sweet. Equal top marks, Oporto-bottled, at Gidleigh Park, still with leathery tannins. Coping miraculously at a Zachys/Christie's charity dinner with chocolate soufflé. Showing well at the Primum Familiae Vini dinner at Vinopolis in November 2000. A superb bottle at a dinner party at home, May 2001. Most recently: soft tawny-red; gloriously fragrant and flowery; complete, excellent. Last noted at the Symington tasting, May 2002 ***** Now - 2020 M.B.
