Lot Essay

A very similar necklace was given by H.R.H the Prince Rainier of Monaco to Grace Kelly on the occasion of their engagement in 1955. Grace Kelly is illustrated wearing her necklace in Sylvie Raulet, Van Cleef & Arpels, Éditions du Regard, Paris 1986, page 36. The date of the necklace confirms that it was directly influenced by the one of Princess Grace of Monaco who was an icon of elegance at the time. The necklace was subsequently slightly altered in 1963.
