LATE SONG-EARLY MING DYNASTY, 12TH-15TH CENTURY

Well modelled as a recumbent dog with its head turned back over the left shoulder, its face with an alert expression with wide eyes and pricked-back ears, the paws, ridged back and bushy tail all finely detailed, the greenish-yellow stone with some russet veining

Lot Essay

A yellow jade group of two puppies with similar features, and another, of a mythical beast and its cub, both attributed to the Song dynasty, were included in the Oriental Ceramic Society exhibition, Chinese Jade Throughout the Ages, Victoria and Albert Museum, London, 1975, Catalogue nos. 247 and 256, respectively.
