FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY TO FANNY HAWORTH, inscribed by Browning on the title page: "To dear Fanny Haworth with many reminiscences and much affection from Robert Browning Versailles May 9 69." Browning's masterful psychological epic, containing 21,000 lines of blank verse, The Ring and the Book is the most extensive exploration of Browning's use of the dramatic monologue.
