"Sidney Shiff acquired the Limited Editions Club in 1979 and together with his son Benjamin initiated radical changes in the style and production of its books. Instead of illustrating texts in the narrative tradition of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, artists were free to interpret a text of their own choosing. Thus the books gradually took on a more contemporary appearance" (Phillips/Zwicker, Grolier/American Livre de Peintre 27).
