8o. Original yellow cloth; dust jacket (minor rubbing along edges, < in. tear to top of lower panel); cloth folding case.
FIRST EDITION of what is arguably Greene's greatest novel (the other contender, Brighton Rock, he labelled an "entertainment.") [Laid in:] A folded sheet of Greene's stationary, with the inscription: "For Garech (?) Pawlowski yours Graham Greene," accompanied by a note, presumably from Greene's publisher or agent, explaining that Greene only signed books for his family and close friends. Connolly The Modern Movement 88; Wobbe A16a; Miller 20a. A very nice copy of a cheap waretime production.
