Two designs for similar chairs are illustrated in George Smith The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterers Guide, Drawing Book and Repository 1826. The chairs reflect the Louis Quatorze style discussed in Edward Joy English Furniture 1800-1851 p.146 in which a suite of giltwood furniture designed by Lewis Wyatt, from the Drawing Room at Tatton Park, Cheshire is illustrated.
