This painting shows a prospect near the opening of the Aberglaslyn Pass, north of Nantmor in North Wales. The artist visited Wales for the first time in 1808 with his father, who was also a painter, but he probably returned to the region during one of his many sketching tours. Pont Aberglaslyn is a stone bridge which provides the only river crossing for some distance in either direction, and its environs were painted and engraved frequently in the early nineteenth century.
