SUCCESSION ARNOLD NEWMAN Arnold Newman est reconnu comme un des grands maîtres de la photographie du XXe et du XXIe siècle et comme le "Père du Portrait Environnemental". Durant une carrière longue de plus de 65 ans, Arnold Newman photographia quelques uns des plus célèbres personnages de la politique, du business ou de l'art. Né en 1918 à New York, il fut élevé et éduqué à Atlantic City et à Miami Beach. Il étudia l'art de 1936 à 1938 grâce à une bourse de l'université de Miami. Il commença sa carrière de photographe en 1938 en travaillant dans des studios réalisant des portraits à la chaîne à Philadelphie, Baltimore et West Palm beach, peu de temps après il devint indépendant et réalisa des photographies abstraites et documentaires. En juin 1941, Beaumont Newhall du Museum of Modern Art et Alfred Stieglitz "découvrirent" ce jeune photographe et lui organisèrent une exposition avec Ben Rose à la galerie A-D de New York. Arnold Newman is acknowledged as one of the great masters of 20th and 21st century photography and is widely recognized as the "Father of Environmental Portraiture." Over a career lasting 65 years, Arnold Newman photographed some of the most famous figures in politics, business and the arts. Born in New York City in 1918, Newman was raised and educated in Atlantic City and Miami Beach. He studied art from 1936 to 1938 under a scholarship at the University of Miami. He began his photography career in 1938 at chain portrait studios in Philadelphia, Baltimore and West Palm Beach, and shortly after began working independently in abstract and documentary photography. In June of 1941, Beaumont Newhall of The Museum of Modern Art and Alfred Stieglitz "discovered" the young photographer and gave him an exhibition with Ben Rose at the A-D Gallery in New York. Newman began working on experimental portraiture, developing an approach that is regarded as having been widely influential in portrait photography today. His solo show in 1945 at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, "Artists Look Like This," attracted national attention. He went to Africa in 1958 for six months to do a photo shoot for Holiday Magazine. His travels took him along the West Coast of Africa and into Nigeria, Congo and Ethiopia.
