Lot Essay

During the period 1889-90 Dubovskoi painted many studies of the Kislovodsk region. For a comparative view painted the same year as the present lot see 'Road in the mountains. Study' (Doroga v gorakh. Etiud) which is in Yaroshenko Memorial House-Museum, Kislovodsk (N. Beskrovnaia and I. Kirilenko, Memorial'nyi muzei-usad'ba khudozhnika H. A. Iaroshenko, Moscow, 2003, p. 29, no. 43, illustrated).
