Lot Essay

Alexander I reorganized the Imperial Porcelain Factory under the directorship of Count D. A. Gur'ev. During this period the technique of transfer-printing was introduced to copy prints of popular paintings and drawings. The images on these plates are from a series of twenty-three views of Gachina, Kamennoi Ostrov, Pavlovsk and Peterhof by S. Galaktionov et al, after Galaktionov, S. Shchedrin and M. Shotochnikov.
