The oblong box with sliding cover and further sliding cover within the lid, the exterior carved, painted and gilt with stylised flowers and geometric motifs, marked under base

Lot Essay

The traditional Russian Arts atelier founded by Princess Tenishev at her estate of Talashkino, near Smolensk in the late 19th Century, followed the neo-Russian movement at Abramtsevo, both attracting artists of the day who worked in traditional mediums, especially painted and carved wood.
