by the Imperial Porcelain Factory, St. Petersburg, period of Nicholas II, 1905, with later blue overglaze State Porcelain Factory mark of hammer, sickle and cog
Circular, the centre painted in red, brown, black and grey with a Suprematist design in the style of Nikolai Suetin, marked under base
11 in. (28 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

Elements for the design of this plate can be seen in Diagonal Movement by Nikolai Suetin, dating from 1923 and painted on the Narkompros service following the form designed by Sergei Chekhonin, which is held in the Lomonosov Porcelain Factory Museum, St. Petersburg, no.2966. (Exhibition catalogue, Circling the Square, 2004, p.119, no.105.)
