etching, 1641, only state, a very good impression of this rare print, the sulphur-tinting and craquelure still printing well, with thread margins, the tips of the lower corners skilfully made up, touches of pen and ink at the corners of the platemark, minor defects on the reverse at the left sheet edge where previously hinged, otherwise in generally good condition

注意事項
No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 15% will be added to the buyer's premium which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis. On occasion, Christie's has a direct financial interest in lots consigned for sale which may include guaranteeing a minimum price or making an advance to the consignor that is secured solely by consigned property. This is such a lot. This indicates both in cases where Christie's holds the financial interest on its own, and in cases where Christie's has financed all or a part of such interest through a third party. Such third parties generally benefit financially if a guaranteed lot is sold successfully and may incur a loss if the sale is not successful.

The youthful subject of this print has been identified as Prince William II of Orange, at the age of 15. He succeeded his father as Stathouder of Holland in 1647, but died in 1650 at the age of 24. Child portraits are rare in Rembrandt's work. Aside from representations of his son Titus, there are only seven, and only this single etching.
