etching, 1654, the rare first state (of three), a very fine, rich and atmospheric impression, before the additional drypoint work and correction of the flaws at the right and the tunic of the man at right (present only in the earliest impressions), on fine oriental paper, with thread margins or trimmed on or fractionally within the platemark, a skilfully repaired split at the upper right extending to the head of the figure at the right, two very short tears at the right sheet edge, otherwise generally in good condition
