This print has also been entitled The Incredulity of Thomas, identifying the kneeling figure as the Apostle who doubted the disciples' reports of the risen Christ, only for Christ to appear a second time, whereupon he repented his earlier doubts. Christ is seen pointing to the wound in his side, inviting Thomas to confirm the corporeal reality of his crucifixion. However the scene appears to lack any feeling of repentance, and the figure might just as easily be Saint Peter, and his gesture one of wonderment and gratitude that his faith has been rewarded.
