Lot Essay

Fringe necklaces of the Arhaeological Revival typically take their inspiration from Greek jewellery of thr Hellenistic Age (330-27 BC). Amphorae (ancient containers to store and transport food) were often used as elements in ancient jewellery signifying fertility and wealth. This particular shape is similar to that of a loutrophoros.
The amphora has become the emblem par excellence of antiquity.
