James Bond discovers that Alec Trevelyan survived the enounter with General Ourumov nine years earlier, but is now bent on revenge against the British government for the betrayal of his parents, Liensk Cossacks, after the second World War. Trevelyan is the head of Janus, the Russian organised crime syndicate and, in league with Ourumov and Xenia Onatopp, an ex-Russian fighter pilot, has seized control of GoldenEye, the Russian defence system. Bond discovers that Trevelyan has constructed a huge satellite dish hidden beneath a lake in the Cuban jungle; using the stolen GoldenEye he will be able to drain the reserves of the Bank of England and destroy London. He and Bond have a final confrontation at the satellite base where Trevelyan holds Bond at gunpoint with his Browning before Bond overpowers him and sends him to his death from the antenna of the satellite dish.
