FIRST EDITION ILLUSTRATED BY PARRISH. VERY SCARCE WITH THE ORIGINAL GLASSINE WRAPPER AND PUBLISHER'S BOX. In a letter to Scribner's, Parrish's excitement was keenly expressed: "I wonder if you have ever read a little play called The Knave of Hearts by Louise Saunders Perkins?... I have read it and seen it acted, and the thought will not down that it would be a most interesting thing to illustrate... The reason I wanted to illustrate The Knave of Hearts was on account of the bully opportunity it gives for a very good time making the pictures. Imagination could run riot, bound down by no period, just good fun and all sorts of things." (C. Ludwig, Maxfield Parrish, p. 48).
