The case with skirted plinth and recessed rectangular panels to the front and sides, trunk with long glazed rectangular door and boxwood and ebony line inlay to stop-chamfered angles, later detachable pediment applied with a foliate ormolu mount, the silvered dial with painted Roman chapters and signed COURTECUISSE LILLE within a gilt-brass moulded bezel, blued steel Breguet hands with counter-poised sweep centre seconds, the substantial movement with high count train, dead beat escapement planted on the back plate with long two-piece crutch to the massive steel and gilt-brass gridiron pendulum with glazed bob and scale above engraved CONDESATION/DILATATION, further engraved on a bar to the centre of the pendulum ON ME REMONTE TOUS LES ANS, the movement suspended from a substantial brass bracket secured to the back board with four blued steel screws, the substantial rectangular weight sliding down the rear of the case via a pulley system within the detachable pediment; the case possibly later associated
