A George III tortoiseshell and gilt-metal mounted striking table clock with lunar and tidal indications

The case in the Louis XV style applied overall with foliate-cast gilt-metal mounts, the concave moulded top now lacking finial, waisted sides with pierced brass sound frets, the arched silvered and engraved dial signed Thomas Hunter Jun.r/Royal Exchange London, Roman and Arabic chapter ring, pierced blued steel hands, the arch with semi-circular cut-out displaying a painted seashore and harbour, a masted ship rotating in the centre, its mast pointing to a series of place names engraved above on an arch above and associated with points of the compass from East Hamburg & Antwerp, to South Portsmouth & Dunkirk and then West Plymouth & Hull, with others between, the time on the dial thus indicating high tide at that location, small flanking rings showing the age of the moon and also its state on a revolving painted ivory globe, the eight day movement with verge escapement, twin chain fusees and rack strike on bell, the plain backplate with holdfast hook; some alterations to movement
