A George III scarlet and gilt-japanned striking table clock
Manderville Somersall, London. Circa 1760
The case with brass handle and pineapple finials to inverted bell top, silk-backed pierced sound frets to the sides and with demi-lune fret to the rear door, decorated overall with chinoiserie, the brass dial with foliate spandrels to formerly silvered chapter ring, matted centre with mock pendulum and date apertures, signed on an applied plaque Man.d Somersall/LONDON, with strike/silent ring in the arch, the eight day movement with five pillars, twin wire fusees and now with anchor escapement, strike on bell, the back plate engraved with foliate scrolls, ho-ho birds and a harlequin figure, with probably later chevron engraved securing brackets, also secured with bolts through lower pillars; pendulum, winding key, two case keys
21 1/8 in. (53.5 cm.) high, handle down
