A PAIR OF CENTRAL ITALIAN (EMILIAN) SNAPHAUNCE BELT PISTOLS
Circa 1670-80
With three-stage barrels engraved with stylised leaf ornament over the breeches and tangs and each stamped 'Lazari Cominaz', slightly rounded locks engraved with flowers and leaves scrolling forwards from the rear, the sears with no provision for half-cock, figured curly walnut full stocks inset with flat iron plaques pierced and engraved with scrolling foliage en suite with the locks, the plaques behind the barrel tangs and the ramrod-pipes each involving large flowerheads and a bird-of-prey, full iron mounts engraved en suite, including trigger-guards each with pierced finial, iron belt hooks, engraved iron fore-end caps, and original iron-capped ramrods.
